Si-Sawat Cat Box
Si-Sawat Cat Box
Artisan Nantana Sompamitre pays homage to Thailand's beloved si-sawat cat with this charming lacquered box. Carved from sustainable mango wood, and hand painted with acrylic paints, this si-sawat cat (also known as a Korat cat) is ready to play. Lacquer, made from gluta usitata trees and the ashes of burnt rice husks, is applied in several layers to finish and seal the box.
A cat breed known since the 14th century, the people of Thailand have long considered si-sawat cats to be good luck. These beautiful cats have irresistible personalities, and a si-sawat is a traditional wedding gift to bring long life, wealth and happiness to the recipients.
